The line between politics and entertainment in America just got a little blurrier, but maybe this time in a good way. Stephen Colbert has been using his show’s platform for some time now to reveal the absurdities of campaign financing law and electoral politics in the wake of the Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling. Last year he started his own SuperPAC, a new type of political foundation that can legally spend unlimited cash on elections. Last week he announced he will run as a candidate in South Carolina’s Republican primary on January 21st. Now, he and Jon Stewart are running this political advertisement attacking leading Republican candidate Mitt Romney—and the corrupt judicial decisions equating corporations (“artificial persons”) with humans (“natural persons”).
